NOHA Policy Briefs

Winter is coming: Za’atari refugee camp, Jordan (UNHCR / Brian Sokol)

About

The NOHA Policy Briefs are a dedicated series of brief articles, the objective of which is the synthesising of academic articles on any area of humanitarian action targeted at policy makers, advocates, practitioners and other stakeholders. More specifically, we seek to provide effective briefs that are rich in content, summarise concisely key research, and that importantly inform policy, research and practice and/or provide clear courses of action.

We welcome articles from academics and practitioners working in any area of humanitarian action and with a range of populations. We are particularly interested in thematic areas that are seldom explored or marginalised in humanitarian action (e.g. disability) and that are intersectional in nature, and which hence raise a number of complex and interconnected issues. Through this, we would like to bring humanitarian action concerns closer to other fields of study and practice, while expanding the scope and breadth of work in humanitarian action.

We welcome original academic and/or practice-informed contributions that are theoretical or empirical, in particular interdisciplinary and critical offerings that transcend the confines of disciplinary, epistemic and practice boundaries. We are particular interested in hearing from those working on the margins of or outside of humanitarian action and studies on themes of relevance to humanitarian action e.g. anthropology, law, psychology, disability studies, feminist studies etc.

Topics we are interested in, include (not exclusively):
